2023 News Archive
The focus of 2023 was the Queen of the Waves Collection – the first part of our St Kilda Project. Over the year we expanded this Collection with new patterncard kits, an online Beginner's Weaving Class, Woven Design Plans, and Creative Course 2. This mixture of patterncard kits and online classes and courses allows us to explore more complex techniques, and take your knitting skills in new directions.
We began the year with the Boreray Pullover and the Hirta Hat Set, both part of the Queen of the Waves Collection. Both of these designs are patterncard kits which can be made in your own choice of colours.
Creative Course 2 added new techniques and online learning to the Queen of the Waves designs, teaching costume techniques in miniature. The Course shows examples of a wide variety of colour palettes and is the perfect way to experiment with both colour and texture while making your own costume embellishments.
The Boreray Cardigan and the Levenish Hat added another two patterncard designs to the Queen of the Waves Collection: a bold, cropped cardigan and an intricate textured hat.
The Queen of the Waves woven designs – Am Baile and Breacan – were worked into a brand new collection of Woven Design Plans along with 14 other example pieces. A companion Beginner's Weaving Class for the rigid heddle loom takes you through the process of weaving and gets you ready to use the plans.
In 2023 we welcomed back new dyelots of Hebridean 3 Ply in Limpet, Red Rattle, Kelpie, Sea Ivory and Pebble Beach.
We also added an old favourite to our patterncard range – the Erin Cardigan in a brand new colourway and shape.
The online Infinite Cable Class was added this year, giving an intensive look at cable technique and a brand new design. The Mo Chridhe Blanket is designed to give you thorough grounding and practice in texture techniques, as well as sewing and finishing.
New example hats were added to the Creative Course 1 Gallery, with an embellished take on the Fern Hat and a new Spiral Hat.
We have knitted up some favourites and shown the Persian Tiles Wrap and Hirta Hat Set in golds with different stylings on Eve, Rebecca and Emma.
During 2023 we travelled far and wide on many photoshoots and discovered new places in the Hebrides, Glasgow, Loch Lomond and Arrochar, as well as visiting, St Conan's Kirk, Fingask Castle and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village.
We ended 2023 by introducing the House of Feathers Collection from our St Kilda project.
This began with a new patterncard kit, the Raven Capelet.
The House of Feathers Collection will continue to expand over 2024 with new designs inspired by the cliffs and people of St Kilda. Next year we will also complete the last piece of the Queen of the Waves Collection and add Creative Course 3 to our suite of online tutorial courses. And, as ever, we are brimming with plans for some old favourites and new photoshoots.
