This kit includes two colour-printed pattern cards with full instructions in all sizes and all the Alice Starmore 2 Ply Hebridean™ yarn required to make the Boreray Cardigan in your chosen size. The Boreray Cardigan is a cropped and fitted shape with set-in sleeves. It features knotted hemlines and edgings, and a front placket and facing which allows the garment to be fastened with hidden press studs. The stranded colour-patterned body is entirely worked in the round and the sleeves are knitted separately in the round to the armholes, with the sleeve caps knitted back and forth in rows. This design is a complex piece to knit, and uses some innovative pattern and finishing skills learned in Creative Course 2 to complete the hemline, neckline, front bands, placket and facing. The patterncards contain detailed photographs which show the inside construction and  finishing of the front placket and facing. This is an ideal design with which to apply some of the skills you have learned and practised whilst making the Dùn cuffs in Creative Course 2.

The Boreray Cardigan is shown worn alongside other items from the Queen of the Waves Collection. These are separate designs which you can find here.

Visit our Video Tutorials section for tutorials on a variety of knitting techniques to help you with your projects, including a step-by-step video tutorial showing all the techniques involved in knitting and finishing stranded garments.

Story

The Boreray cardigan, featuring its geometric stranded pattern of flying and diving gannets, is a key piece in our Queen of the Waves wardrobe. It is designed to be worn by itself, or over a Sulaire Spencer, sitting neatly above the Spencer peplum, and when worn open, showing the openwork panel down the centre of the Spencer. It is also designed to work alongside the Hirta fingerless gloves and the Dùn Cuff, so you can layer it up to very dramatic effect.
