I was asked to design a garment for the Autumn 1989 issue of Vogue Knitting for inclusion in a theme titled The Thoroughbreds – Sweaters with Enduring Appeal. I immediately imagined racehorses, stables and the classic country styles that are associated with that lifestyle.
This was the first design of mine to be published in Vogue Knitting and it was the first time that the magazine published a design worked in the round with knitted steeks. It has certainly proved that it has an enduring appeal, as it is as wearable today as it was 22 years ago. I have remastered the original in 15 shades of my Hebridean 2 Ply, and it is now available in six sizes.
