Story

A bed valance was made for Kimberley Hall circa 1532-35, in expectation of a visit from Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. A white satin background is covered with floral patterns of appliqued black velvet It also contains the couple’s monogram and may have been used to furnish the royal bed during their stay in 1535. I have used the patterns together with the style of slashing which was popular in the 16th century, to create this sophisticated and striking jacket.
