The shoreline of the Isle of Lewis is a varied and constantly changing environment. From the Tràigh Mhòr at Tolsta, with its beautiful, long stretch of beach in colours that would not look out of place on a Mediterranean shore, to the shingle beaches at Brue which are constantly pounded by the Atlantic Ocean, there are myriad sources of inspiration.
The Tràigh Mhòr (Big Beach) is one of the longest sandy beaches on Lewis. It is a dramatic sweep of sand with machair lands behind it. Through the middle of the machair winds a burn which emerges onto the middle of the beach. The patterns and colours created as the water flows over the sand and into the sea have inspired Delta. For the Sand colourway the diamonds which turn and twist thoughout the design are created in the soft tones of Driftwood, Spindrift and Fulmar, which change subtly to mimic the shades of the sand on the Tràigh, which are visible beneath the flowing water. The Sea colourway uses the rich blues which flow towards the horizon.
The diamond shapes within the regular pattern are varied so this is something to keep your eye on while you knit: yet if you do knit one out of the order I created within the charted position then that will be perfectly in tune with what nature reveals time and again, so you can go with the flow and not be too exacting.
