The Damselfly Hat Set is composed of a cap, a beret, one pair of handwarmers and one pair of fingerless gloves. There is a choice of three different colourways: the Northern Blue, the Emerald and the Red. Each colourway is worked in six shades of Alice Starmore Hebridean 2 Ply. I have designed the sets and provided instructions so that you can work one of the hats and one pair of the gloves or handwarmers with the background and pattern colors worked in reverse. You can see this effect in the photograph of all four items of the Northern Blue colourway. The Hat Set is shown here with the Damselfly Cardigan from the book Glamourie by Alice Starmore. The set is worked in the stranded circular technique. If you are new to this technique then there is a graded progression that you can follow, starting with the cap and beret which introduces double decrease shaping in the patterned crown. The handwarmers will teach you how to make thumb gussets and the fingerless gloves are an exercise in how to work each digit in the round.
This kit includes a colour-printed patterncard with full instructions and all the yarn required to make the Damselfly Hat Set in your chosen colourway. The cap and beret are made in one size and instructions for the gloves and handwarmers are provided in three sizes. Enough yarn is provided in the kit to make the largest size of gloves.

Story
The stylised wing pattern I created for the yoke of the Damselfly Cardigan allows for very pleasing variations and so I used it to design this beret, cap, fingerless gloves and handwarmers. The backs of the gloves and the hats feature the pattern that I based on the cellular patterns formed by the veined wings of the damsels. The deep cuffs of the gloves and handwarmers feature multiple little horizontal bands of textured colour just like the little banded patterns on the cardigan. As a further nod to the original inspiration, I designed a little damselfly motif for the triangular thumb gusset. The set adds an extra dazzle when worn with a matching cardigan and also looks eye-catching worn with a coat or jacket.
