Virtual Yarns - Home of Alice Starmore Yarns and Designs

Dear Knitter,

The Levenish Hat patterncard kit from the Queen of the Waves Collection has arrived on the website, just in time for colder weather and shorter days. This close fitting, textured and layered design is an interesting knit and is perfect for layering up for winter. The kit contains three colours of Hebridean 2 Ply in your own choice of colours; one colour for making a self-coloured Levenish, and another two shades for making a second hat in a main colour with contrast highlights. Here Eve wears a Levenish in Red Rattle with a subtle Tormentil contrast along with Henry VIII fingerless gloves, a scarf from my Weaving Design Plans and Jade's  Persian Tiles wrap in Sea Anemone and Corncrake. You can find the Levenish Hat patterncard kit here.

You can of course wear your Levenish as your only knitted piece and here you can see Iona wearing a version in Pebble Beach with Driftwood contrast.

I initially designed the Levenish Hat to compliment the Sulaire Spencer as part of the Queen of the Waves Collection and here you can see a self-coloured Mara Levenish worn with a matching long sleeved Sulaire Spencer.

Creative Course 2 - Dún Cuff design from the Queen of the Waves collection by Alice Starmore

Also added to the website this month are prospectuses for the Sulaire Shawl, Cluaran Shawl and Staran designs. Now all of our Video Class Kits have a prospectus for you to browse before you buy, so you can have a good look at all of the Video Class designs before you select your project.

After a brief break from putting together the Mo Chridhe Infinite Cable Class I am once again working on a Creative Course for the last of the Queen of the Waves designs. Her belt and bag will be the focus of Creative Course 3, which I will be continuing to put together over the next 2-3 months. The video courses and classes are intense and time consuming to create, but it is a wonderful format for bringing together and showing new techniques and costume making skills in great detail.

Henry VIII Hat Set and Polaris Cardigan patterncard kit designs by Alice Starmore in Hebridean 2 Ply yarn

We have had a very stormy and wet October but last week Jade finally managed to get out on a photoshoot. As well as the Levenish outfits, model Eve also wore some old favourites. Here you can see the Polaris Cardigan and Henry VIII Hat Set, the Rosemarkie cardigan with the Witch Hare Hat Set and the Firebirds Hat Set and Woven Wrap.

Though Xmas seems like it still ought to be a long way off it is time to remind our international customers that the postal service will be getting very busy soon, so if you want to be sure that  your orders arrive before Xmas, then be sure to make your order before the end of November.

Next month, while I am hard at work embroidering and filming, Jade is hoping the weather will allow for more shoots to show off a couple of new colourways to brighten up winter.

Happy Knitting,

Alice
