Marina is an accessory set guaranteed to turn heads. I used seventeen shades of my Hebridean 2 Ply to create the rich patterned colour scheme, all worked in the stranded circular technique. If you are new to the technique then there is a graded progression you can follow, starting with the beret which introduces double-decrease shaping in the patterned crown. The double-breasted collar is made with a small steek at the front opening which is cut and then borders are knitted up, just like a cardigan. The fingerless gloves will teach you how to make thumb gussets and then how to work each digit in the round. You will be an expert by the time you have finished the set.
This kit includes a colour-printed patterncard with full instructions and all the yarn required to make the Marina Hat Set. The collar and beret are made in one size and instructions for the gloves are provided in three sizes. Enough yarn is provided in the kit to make the largest size of gloves.
The Marina design is also available as a cardigan, click here for the Marina Cardigan.
The underwater world, filled with life, colour and movement, is one of the most visually exciting things on the planet. Seaweed, corals, anemones, pebbles and rocks are magically illuminated as light is bounced around the shifting currents. I wanted to translate something of this magic into a knitted design, using pattern and colour. I devised patterns to suggest an undersea garden that is always in motion, while the colours evoke water and aquatic life. Our Hebridean yarn was designed to express that same magical, luminous, ever-changing quality. I first designed Marina as a classic cardigan and the hat set illustrates how I have incorporated and adapted my original pattern and colours into the various accessory shapes.
When the UK lockdown was announced on Monday 23rd of March we took the strong advice of health and scientific experts and made the decision to pause orders and deliveries from the Virtual Yarns website. However safe we can make our workplace, we cannot send packages without involving delivery workers both here and at the point of destination. At this key time we need to play our part in reducing physical contact and closing temporarily is the most responsible way to achieve that. When circumstances allow we will re-open for orders.
