Polaris Colour Palettes
The Polaris design gives a huge scope for colour choice. As you can see from the two examples of the Polaris in progress your colour choices will have a big impact on the final look.
You can opt for a high or more subtle contrast between your Background and Pattern colours, and you can also use your Contrast edging colour as either a startling splash of a completely different tone, or a more subtle shading from your background.
Below you can see an example of a Background of Machair with a Pattern of Spindrift and Contrast of Golden Plover. This palette allows for the pattern to be visible, but soft and subtle, and the edging of Golden Plover blends softly in to the Machair.
The Shearwater, Kittiwake and Sea Anemone version has a very different look. There is a high contrast between all three colours, giving the pattern a sharp definition, while the red gives a bold and more unexpected edging.

Hebridean moorland waters at their moodiest give ideas for three different palettes based arond our deep and lovely Kelpie shade. Above a Background of Red Deer and Pattern of Golden Plover would give a rich, warm look finished with an edging of Kelpie to add depth.
The deep blue waters of a moorland river with lichen covered rocks give us a palette with a high contrast between a Background of Kelpie and Pattern of Pebble Beach, but with a subtle Contrast edging of Mara, adding a touch of a rich blue to the Kelpie.
A wild river of peaty water after the rain inspires a very high contrast of Background Kelpie and Pattern Solan Goose, while a Contrast of Corncrake brings in a strong edigng of gold.
Calmer days and brighter waters give a softer set of palettes. Above a Background of Driftwood and Pattern of Selkie gives a high contrast, but one with warmth. An edging of Pebble Beach adds a cooler tone to the Driftwood.
The waters of a bay and the distant hills translate into a Background of Summer Tide and Pattern of Pebble Beach and a Contrast Edging of Strabhann to bring in a hint of the brighter turquoise beneath the waves.
A loch on a still day gives a Background of Shearwater and Pattern of Sea Ivory with a Contrast of Witchflower.
The life around the shoreline inspires water based palettes. A puffin taking off turns into a Background of Kelpie and Pattern of Kittiwake with an edging of Sea Anemone.
A seal popping up to say hello gives a Background of Selkie, Pattern of Pebble Beach and Contrast of Mara.
An Artic Tern carrying its catch against a blue sky inspires a Background of Pebble Beach, Pattern of Witchflower and Contrast edging of Kittiwake.
Plants, flowers and lichens give a whole range of ideas. Above the stone walls of a ruined Hebridean house inspire a very subtle palette with a Background of Pebble Beach, Pattern of Solan Goose and Contrast edging of Sea Ivory.
Oxeye daisies give us a Background of Whin, Pattern of Solan Goose and Contrast of Golden Plover.
The marram grass on the machair gives a Background of Spindrift, Pattern of Machair and Contrast of Corncrake.
Out on the moor with the blooming Heather we have a warm palette with a Background of Erica, Pattern of Fulmar and Contrast of Clover.
Winter moorland scenes show how changing just one colour makes a difference. Above a Background of Driftwood with a Pattern of Red Deer and Contrast of Fulmar gives soft pink tones. Below a Background of Fulmar, Pattern of Red Deer and Contrast of Corncrake changes the look of the palette by adding gold tones.
